Thelsic Salvage by TiJiL Thelsic Salvage by TiJiL
So, the recent popularity of my tockneff image (which was kindof in my rejects pile to begin with) has encouraged me to clean up and post some of my unfinished art.

This is the thelsic, a sentient alien from the same universe as the tockneff. Thelsic are supposed to be somewhere between mollusks and therapod dinosaurs.

This guy is really not too far from fully modeled. I ultimately abandoned him because I didn't like how fat he was, I think, and I was daunted by the task of adding dozens upon dozens of giant translucent lionfish-esque spines in 3d. So... I didn't. I just drew them on hastily so you can see what the full design might have looked like.

Fun (nerdy) fact: I went through several elaborate color schemes for this guy, each based on various colorful sealife. The nautilus scheme was quite lovely but I didn't feel it fit the character. So the one you see comes from the peacock mantis shrimp (a truly beautiful animal. Look it up.)

I should maybe finish this guy up.

Did you wok on Maya for your 3d art?
I really like this by the way, but I picture it as being more of a pet species, like a chubby house cat!
Really love it though!

You and your artistic ADHD! Eh, I suppose I do the same thing, I've got lots of stuff started, never to finish. What's so cool about your creations is that I feel like I can reach out and touch the surfaces of them. Those tentacles are like, so there..it's hard for me to describe, which is strange because I am so damn wordy other times. What does he feed on, and how big is he? That's a cool looking critter, show the little chub some love, give him his lionfish spines.

Thelsic are generalized carnivores that, at home, eat predominantly fish and aquatic invertebrates. They have highly expandable throats and stomachs, however, and in battle have been known to devour their foes whole. This, of course, has lent them a rather poor reputation among other species, but in fact for all their repulsiveness the thelsic are a principled, intelligent, and academic people.

4-5 feet at the hips, 500-1000 pounds.

I probably will add his spines sometime. He looks better than I remember.
