So, the recent popularity of my tockneff image (which was kindof in my rejects pile to begin with) has encouraged me to clean up and post some of my unfinished art.
This is the thelsic, a sentient alien from the same universe as the tockneff. Thelsic are supposed to be somewhere between mollusks and therapod dinosaurs.
This guy is really not too far from fully modeled. I ultimately abandoned him because I didn't like how fat he was, I think, and I was daunted by the task of adding dozens upon dozens of giant translucent lionfish-esque spines in 3d. So... I didn't. I just drew them on hastily so you can see what the full design might have looked like.
Fun (nerdy) fact: I went through several elaborate color schemes for this guy, each based on various colorful sealife. The nautilus scheme was quite lovely but I didn't feel it fit the character. So the one you see comes from the peacock mantis shrimp (a truly beautiful animal. Look it up.)
I should maybe finish this guy up.
I really like this by the way, but I picture it as being more of a pet species, like a chubby house cat!
Really love it though!
4-5 feet at the hips, 500-1000 pounds.
I probably will add his spines sometime. He looks better than I remember.
